Outline of Museum

  On April 1st, 2009, former Chiba Prefectural Awa Museum was rebuilt as the Tateyama Port’s interactional place “Nagisa no eki Tateyama” which contains Museum of Nagisa as the major facility.
 
  Tateyama City Municipal Museum Branch Museum (opened in February 5th, 2011) is located in "Nagisa no eki" Tateyama. This museum introduces life in Boso areas and culture about fishing in Boso areas. The main exhibits are “Items related to fishing in Boso Peninsula” which have been designated as the cultural asset of Japan, and “Items related to Maiwai’s and their production” which have been assigned as the cultural asset of Chiba Prefecture. Maiwai is a celebratory kimono jacket which was distributed to the fisherman from the owner of the fishing company after a big catch of fish.

Exhibiting whaling materials and large materials, and some wooden ships which were made from nearly extinct method of Japanese ship-building and that related materials.

Introducing from the national important intangible folk cultural asset "Items related to fishing in Boso Peninsula", materials of nets, rods and harpoons. Also introducing fisherman's lives and religions.

Introducing exhibit with collected materials, and also introducing "Awa areas traditional crafts" which has been shown since former Awa Museum.

Closing Days

Since April 2013, Museum of Nagisa opens Monday
Although, Museum will be closed at last Monday
※ "Umibe no hiroba" is closed on Mondays as usual.
